The 2024 Superbike enters the archives under the sign of Toprak Razgatlioglu, the driver who dominated him from the beginning. Too bad not to have witnessed the ultimate direct confrontation with Nicholas Bulega, cut off four laps (barely) from the checkered flag by the red flag brought out for the disastrous engine failure of the Yamaha of Phillip Oettl in the middle of the finishing straight. At that point, Toprak was eight tenths of a second ahead, he seemed to have the advantage on his side, but faced with such an inspired Bulega, the last word may not have been said. This phantom final is an evocative bridge to 2025: we will have to wait a few months to see how what is shaping up to be the rivalry of the near future of Superbike will evolve.

First double podium for BMW
In the last race, the German brand also had the satisfaction of placing two drivers on the podium. Accompanying the usual Toprak, Michael van der Mark secured his position with a (perhaps) exaggerated defense against Andrea Iannone. A big improvement on the previous day, the former MotoGP rider made a lightning start and managed to take the inside of the Dutch rider, who however closed the trajectory by giving a big blow to his opponent. Iannone finished wide, having to rebuild his race from scratch. He still saved an excellent fourth place, but the regrets are there. Danilo Petrucci, sore from his fall on Saturday, finished the adventure with a sixth place.

Alvaro Bautista, from three wins to three falls
Last year, Jerez was glorious for Álvaro Bautista, for the second time Superbike champion and author of a deadly performance: three resounding victories. This time, there was no escape: in the first race, he fell twice and conceded the third in the final round of the championship. The 40-year-old from Madrid therefore did not manage to win, he who suffered very heavy gaps compared to his teammate Nicolò Bulega. Strengthened by his one-year renewal with official Ducati, Alvarito will have to quickly regain his concentration: on Tuesday, he will have to decide on the developments that Borgo Panigale has prepared for the rest of the adventure.

It's already 2025
The Superbike World Championship is over but the new season is just around the corner. Winter testing begins on Tuesday and Wednesday here in Jerez: Ducati Aruba, Honda HRC and some satellite teams will be present. The most important news will be the debut of Bimota, who returns to the series with an official Kawasaki engine and management entrusted to Provec Racing, the Catalan team that has managed Akashi's factory entry in maxi-bikes since 2010. It will be ridden by the experienced Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani.
