Marc Márquez broke the track record in Q2 and will start from pole position, potentially aiming for two more wins this weekend. However, he maintains that not everything is perfect yet in his eyes.
No real surprise after having dominated the first day of the Argentine Grand Prix, Marc Márquez took pole position at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit, and did so with style. The #93 driver thus broke the track record, which he had held since 2014, by clocking 1:36.
But upon arrival at the Parc Ferme, he remained focused on what he still had to improve, despite this record pole position which placed the second-placed driver more than two tenths behind. "Curiously, I ride better alone than with a lot of slipstream in front of me, and with the first tyre I couldn't have a completely clear track, even though Alex was also very fast and didn't bother me at all. Once again, he's very fast again. With the second tyre I felt a little more comfortable. I like perfection, there are things to improve, but it's good.", he told Motosan.
"These are small things, especially for the race pace. I need to continue to improve on certain points and be more consistent. In Thailand, I was much more consistent with my braking. Here, it's costing me a little more, and that's what we need to look at with the team to work on and make the most of the situation."
If he seems above the rest since the beginning of the weekend, Marc Márquez warned that he will be closely monitoring his brother Alex Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia, as well as Johann Zarco: "I think Alex and Pecco are the strongest, but we can't forget Zarco. He's had great pace since FP1. I thought the track would improve and he'd drop back a bit because that's logical from what we've seen in the last few races, but he's making the Honda work very well, he's a great rider and he works well. So we'll take him into account for the race as well."
