MotoGP Argentina Day 1, Marc Marquez (Ducati/1): “Bagnaia would have been there… without the crash”

Marc Marquez could not have dreamed of a better first day in Argentina. After dominating the Thailand Grand Prix head and shoulders, here he is, repeating his exploits on the asphalt of Termas de Rio Hondo. The eight-time World Champion first led FP1, then Practice, without ever flinching. He now holds the new track record, and can face the next two days with confidence.

Unchallenged. Marc Marquez was impressive again this Friday in Argentina, where he has already won three times in MotoGP. Speaking to Sky Sports, he confides about his efforts of the day. “It went well from the start, even though we had to work harder than in Thailand. In fact, I use the rear brake in a very special way, I'm the only Ducati rider doing it like this here. So we had no reference. We were faster in the afternoon than in the morning, and above all, more consistent. It's good to have the lap record, but the most important thing is the victory."If he continues to progress throughout the weekend, his opponents have reason to be afraid.

 

 

Let's talk about his competitors. He identified them quite clearly: “I can see my brother Alex fighting up front, but also Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi. Bagnaia would have been there... without the fallThe Ducati is strong, of course, but so is the Aprilia. We will have to stay focused, because I like the track, but I haven't always won. For example, I love Austin, but that didn't stop me from scoring zero last year » he added. It is true that Termas de Rio Hondo has not always smiled on him: since 2014 and the introduction of this circuit to the calendar, it is either he wins or he does not score any points.

 

 

Tomorrow's strategy is already clearly established, and he isn't afraid to reveal it. It will be about choosing the right tires and not relying solely on speed. « Tomorrow we will try to make further progress.. Not to be faster, but more consistent. For the tires, I was fast with two different compounds. It would have been easier to choose if I had gone slower with one of them » he concluded. Suffice to say, it looks promising; many are already fearing another easy victory like in Thailand.
